Cargo Plane

“Mommy, let’s drive our minivan to the airport. We can take a cargo plane.”

“What do you think a cargo plane hauls?”

“Cars.”

“So we can drive this car right on it?”

“Yes.”

The Perils of Eating Waffles Pantsless

Joseph, tell Grandma what happened today at breakfast.

“I had waffles. I put the syrup on my hands. Then syrup got on my buns. My buns stuck to the chair. I cried because it hurt when my buns peeled up.”

The Horizon

“Mommy, I’m afraid of the horizon.”

“Do you know what the horizon is?”

“Yes. It’s a big thunderstorm.”

Hallelujah!

Joseph must have learned a new song at school, because he came home saying the word “hallelujah” — sort of… he was saying “howl-la-luna” … a whole new meaning!

Kentucky

We walk outside last Saturday morning.  “So, Joseph, what do you want to do today?”

“I want to go to Kentucky!!”

We went to Kentucky in August for a wedding, and Joseph remembers eating in the hotel suite while watching Cars, going to the pool, and eating an ice cream cone after the wedding at McDonald’s at about 9:30 at night.  It must have been such a surprise to him to stop for ice cream when he thought for sure he was headed for bed–how could a 2 year old forget that?

Impressed

“Mommy, I am building something impressive. You are going to be very impressed.”
(I was already!)

Old and Falling Apart

Joseph and I were making cookies when he said, “I am old and falling apart.”

I didn’t think I could have heard him right, so I asked him what he said.

Joseph repeated, “I am old and falling apart.”

I asked Joseph, “Who says that?”

Joseph says, ”Mommy and Daddy!”

Thinking

I think we should go catch a fish and cook it on a bonfire on the beach and eat it!

Well you are full of brilliant ideas! Where did you think of that one?

I was just thinking about it in my life.

Smelly

-Mommy, you look smelly today.
-Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
-It’s a good thing!
-Oh, well, thank you then!

Leg Warmer

Breakfast conversation:

Joseph: I drank all my milk!
Mommy: You did! Where did it go?
J: It went down my belly and into my throat!
M: Then where did it go?
J: Into my legs!

(We’re sitting on stools at the kitchen island and Joseph props his legs up on mine.)

J: Mommy your legs are warm.
M: They are? How do your legs feel?
J: They are cold.

(pause)

J: Please mommy may I have a sip of your coffee?

(I give him a spoonful.)

M: Do you like that?
J: Now my legs are warm!
