So Uncle Matt is officially off to live in Dubai. We went over to my folks’ house for a farewell hamburger dinner, and some last-minute razzing and well-wishing. We snapped a few pictures, gave hugs then waved goodbye as he and dad pulled out of the driveway. We all stood a minute and talked about how far Dubai is, but not really so far, and at least there is Skype. We gave a teary-eyed grandma some hugs too, then headed home. In the car on the way home, in the dark silence comes Joseph’s little voice from the back seat, speaking for all of us so eloquently. “It’s sad when someone is here and then they leave.” We nod. It is.

Oh, how sweet! This reminds me of somthing Shannon said recently. I was putting her to bed and she gave me a hug and said, ‘I miss Grandma. I wish I could see her again.” That thought has defintely crossed my mind, but it takes a sweet, innocent four-year-old to say it out loud. Hope your brother has safe travels.
Yeah, kids just say it like it like it is don’t they? Amazing how they can say something complex with such simple language…and they really pay way more attention to nuances of feelings than I ever thought. I’ll have to send you Matt’s blog when he starts it …
