When Joseph Feels Sad…

Joseph got time out after picking the blossoms off of Grandma’s geraniums. After crying for a while, he said, “I made Grandma Nanners sad. I made everybody sad. I’m sad…..can I have a cookie to make me feel better?”

Your Turn

We’re playing ball in the backyard. I kick the ball and Joseph gets angry and pointing at me, says, “Mommy, it’s my turn! You take your turn and put it back in your body!!”

Panini

“Joseph, look at our new panini press! Isn’t it exciting?”

“Hooray!! A panini press!”

“Do you know what a panini is?”

“Yeaaah…. It’s like carrot juice.”

“Oh and how do you make it?”

“You put it in a panini presser!”

Big Hands

Joseph is carrying his new, big yellow and black wooden roller (type of construction vehicle) and a small white scraper. At the top of the stairs he pauses, trying for a second to hold both, plus the handrail.

“Mommy, you carry this one because you have big hands.” He doles out the roller. “I will carry this one because it is little and I have little hands.”

Spanglish

Looking at the night sky, Joseph invents a new word: la moona.

Wellies

Joseph makes his entrance in Grandma Nanners’ kitchen. Grandma Nanners, welcoming and cheery, drenches the little man in a shower of attention and exclaims, “Joseph! I like your boots!”

“These are not boots! These…are WELLIES!”

Tomatoes

Joseph picks tomatoes. Ripe or not, he cannot resist. He is constantly reminded not to when within 10 feet of any tomato plant.

“Joseph, don’t even think about it…”

He waits. Tomato still in sight out of the corner of his eye. “I’m gonna think about it!”

Foggy

Me: Look how foggy it is today!

Joseph: We need to get a big, big fan to blow the fog away!

Honey

“Mommy, I know where honey comes from! Bears!”
